El centro como punto de partida. El centro es el punto que se encuentra a la misma distancia de todos los puntos. La composición matemática y orgánica que encontramos en la naturaleza, la estética que ofrece la vida, lo natural, la configuración humana en su orden natural condiciona la vida misma. La composición en la pintura durante siglos se mantuvo como uno de los elementos formales de la estructura de una obra de arte y el equilibrio como la distribución armónica de los elementos en los que a partir del centro se desplazan puntos casi o igual de importantes que el centro. C E N T R O es un proyecto artístico que pretende desestabilizar visualmente el orden a partir del centro y sus posibilidades de composición, ya sea en simetría y sus distintos tipos. Simetría radial, reflectiva, radical, etc. La mariposa es un ejemplo cotidiano y natural para hacer referencia a un orden simétrico, la serie en xilografía titulada “La apariencia de la simetría” habla justo de desestabilizar esta idea de que lo que existe de un lado tiene que suceder del otro, la misma textura de la madera es la que visualmente interrumpe este orden aparente. En mi proceso creativo he trabajado constantemente con dualidades, sombras y reflejos, palíndromos; esta nueva serie es una nueva forma de abordar la pintura, su historia y sus posibilidades. The center is the point that is at the same distance from all the points. The mathematical and organic composition that we find in nature, the aesthetics offered by life, the natural, the human configuration in its natural order conditions life itself. The composition in painting for centuries remained one of the formal elements of the structure of a work of art and the balance as the harmonic distribution of the elements in which from the center points are moved almost or equally as important as the center. C E N T R O is an artistic project that aims to visually destabilize the order from the center and its possibilities of composition, either in symmetry and its different types. Radial, reflective, radical symmetry, etc. The butterfly is a daily and natural example to refer to a symmetrical order, the woodcut series entitled "The appearance of symmetry" speaks just to destabilize this idea that what exists on one side has to happen on the other, the same Wood texture is the one that visually interrupts this apparent order. In my creative process I have worked constantly with dualities, shadows and reflections, palindromes; this new series is a new way of approaching painting, its history and its possibilities. La presente exposición es una breve muestra de arte erótico contemporáneo. Basada en criterios subjetivos, cada obra tiene las pasiones y preferencias que los artistas buscaron en su experiencia personal. Todos coinciden en la representación del cuerpo humano, casi siempre desnudo, exhibido en solitario, en parejas y en algunos casos en grupos. Veo en estas piezas una obsesión por el cuerpo femenino, aun las mujeres artistas incluidas en esta muestra pintan y representan el cuerpo femenino como pilar del erotismo y la sensualidad. El cuerpo masculino también está representado, ya sea como una ensoñación, un deseo o una experiencia vivida. Como aquellas obras donde el autor evoca un recuerdo del campo, la lluvia y el deseo. Sin los sentidos involucrados el acto amoroso carecería de encanto, ya que a través de ellos percibimos el mundo exterior, el cuerpo de otra persona. Las ropas caen, ya han caído, nos hemos despojado de ellas de manera presurosa o con la calma que solicita nuestra pareja, en ambos casos el deseo y la excitación están presentes. Los artistas han sabido representar el cuerpo del otro, y con este acto creativo se han representado a sí mismos, nos han revelado un poco de su vida privada. Ellos lo invitan a usted, a que llegado el momento, deje caer también sus ropas. Carlos Jaurena. Enero 2018. When the clothes fall This exhibition is a brief sample of erotic contemporary art. Based on subjective criteria, each piece has the passion and preferences that each artist searched for in their personal experiences. All of them coincide on the representation of the human body, almost always naked, exhibited alone, in couples and in some cases in groups. I see in these works of art an obsession with the female body, even the women artists included in this exhibition paint and portrait the female body as the pillar of eroticism and sensuality. The male body is also portrayed, as a dream, a desire or a lived experience; as with works where the author evokes a memory of the countryside, rain and desire. Without the senses involved, the act of love would lack enchantment, since it is through them that we perceive the surrounding world, the body of another person. The clothes fall. They have already fallen, we have taken them off in a hurry or with the calm requested by our partner. In both cases, desire and excitement are present. The artists have been able to represent the body of the other, and with this creative act, they are representing themselves, they have revealed a bit of their private life. They have invited you, so that when the time comes, you'll also let your clothes fall. “43” |
| On Sept. 26, 2014, 43 students went missing. All of them young men who were studying to become rural teachers at a college in Ayotzinapa, Guerrero. They had gone to Iguala to commandeer buses to travel to Mexico City. But as the buses left the city, Police Officers intercepted them and took them away. That was the last time anyone saw them. Soon after, families of the students gathered in front of the capital demanding answers, and later were joined by millions of protesters in the streets of Mexico City, as well as all over the world. Government officials made a show of searching for the students but the search was largely fruitless. “The piece “43” is a cry for justice, and a claim to all of those who can and should preserve human rights.” says artist Enrique Bascón. “43” is a portrait of artist Francisco Toledo, pictured flying a kite, in a performance art piece/protest of the government cover up of the disappearance of those 43 students. In the state of Oaxaca where Toledo is from, there is a tradition on the Day of the Dead to fly kites in order to communicate with the spirits of dead loved ones, in the air, through the kite string. Toledo painted 43 kites with the faces of the missing students and flew them along with 42 other people. He said that since the government was busy “searching” for the students on the land he was going to search for them in the air. A very powerful statement. The piece also contains a nod to Picasso with pieces from Guernica scattered along the bottom of the frame, including the mother holding her dead child. You can also see a red point, painted on the body of the artist, from which the inspiration comes to this piece from another artist team, “Equipo Crónica”. “They, as I do, use humor to work and point a political disorder in the society in the 70´s and 80´s in Spain, where I´m from.“ says Bascón. The artist also goes on to say: “The reference to the Guernica for me, is to respect those who fight and die for their identity, it is because this is the same pain, only moves in the coordinates. And the red is in relation with corruption, it is the representation of the physical pain, in which the whole country was united those sad days. The physical pain is the soul pain. The soul of a country that honored their memory with a non violent concentration, which still remains in the streets of Mexico City, with their families, and in the memory of Mexicans, as a nation. The last print of "43" was sold on Thursday, and I´m happy to see that sharing this history brings us the memory of those who are still missing, and looking for a way back home. | We are excited to introduce Sarah Quigley, who has taken over as our Public Relations Director and will be working closely with us in the gallery. Sarah grew up in Oklahoma in the United States and has been living here in Los Cabos for the last two years, primarily working as a Scuba Instructor, until now. She says: “I have held a huge appreciation for art since I was a child, and I am so excited to be here now. The artwork of Enrique Bascón is very inspring to me and I feel so fortunate to have this opportunity to share it with everyone.” |  |

Lecture and Slide Show Portrait of Frida
 | We are lucky enough to be hosting Alejandra Lopez, the former coordinator of the Frida Kahlo Museum- Casa Azul, who is coming to Los Cabos to give us an inside look into her experience working at the Museum for the last 10 years. She was hired in 2006, when the Museum was granted access to a bathroom in Casa Azul, that had remained locked since Rivera's death. The bathroom could only be opened upon the death of Diego Rivera's inheritor, almost 50 years after Rivera's death. The bathroom turned out to be a treasure trove of personal artifacts of Frida's, including letters, photos, clothing and her personal collection of vintage Mexican toys. Alejandra was hired to help catalogue and organize these items, and she will talk about this experience along with a slide show, and then will answer questions from the audience. |
We are combining this unique lecture and slide presentation with a group exhibit by our artists of small works inspired by Frida.

| Painting for me is a language that takes an infinite dimension through the eyes of the spectator. Each day we reborn with the possibility of being again and every day with the memory of previous days we make new decisions, having the possibility of being new people. Usually we cling so much to the memories that we confuse what we are with what we have been, with what we were yesterday. My painting is a being that reminds me that life is not my life, is the life that I can see, is an anonymous life, unknown to the rest, is the life through my eyes. Sculpture and painting are tools to transcend this dimension. |  |

I choose simple speeches, which awake with a twinkle the complexity of the human being and his judgments. Is also journalism, is a chronicle of nowadays that seals the present of humanity with its ridiculous contradictions in the parameter of time.
We are animals, beasts, with the pretention of being something else; slaves of a mind that tricks us, and that therefore, has limitations. Our faces are the reflection of our decisions, of what we are. Our posture, our body language, is a clear glass. That glass is what I paint. I am interested in what it reflects, the scars, the lights, the shadows. To paint a subject is to violate his privacy, always, even if you have permission, look for defects, the anti-esthetics; the beauty of anti-esthetic is infinite, and it is that infinite that is multiplied again and again in each new viewer my longing.
